Tierra Madre Horse Sanctuary

HORSES HELPING HORSES was conceived by Jim Gath in the Fall of 2004 in response to all the horses that were left homeless by that year’s devastating Southern California wildfires.

It is a unique artistic endeavor in which horses actually paint their own artwork that is then mounted and framed.  The proceeds from selling the finished pieces go toward raising funds for a particular equine cause.

Thousands of dollars were raised on behalf of the displaced horses from Southern California and the program was featured in Western Horseman magazine and on KTLA-TV in Los Angeles.  Upon moving to the Phoenix area, Horses Helping Horses raised funds for The Horse Rescue of North Scottsdale, among others, and was prominently featured in the local Phoenix press.

Now, the horses of Tierra Madre Horse Sanctuary are busy at work on their artwork for a cause much closer to home – their own survival.  All the proceeds from their artwork will go toward their own feed, veterinarian bills and overall care.  Additionally, the funds will be used to help cover the costs of new horses coming in.

Each print is “signed” by the artist and mounted and framed.  A brief bio and color photograph of the artist accompanies each piece.  With a little advanced notice, we are able to use a color palette requested by the purchaser.

Each original painting costs $85.00 (tax deductible), plus shipping and handling (approximately $30).

As famed actress and champion of animals, Stefanie Powers, said when she bought six paintings, “This is perfect!  Every home in the country should have one of these proudly hanging on the wall.”
